3D printer manufacturer B9 Creations (Rapid City, SD, USA) has partnered with a nanomaterials company Mechnano (Mesa, Arizona, USA) to expand its line of photopolymer materials to integrate additive manufacturing (AM) into large-scale production applications.
This partnership brings together B9Creations’ B9 Core Series 3D printers and Mechnano’s nanomaterials functionalized with carbon nanotubes to provide materials designed for specific performance requirements. According to Mechnano, it is the first company to manufacture parts with carbon nanotubes using tank photopolymerization systems, which achieves static dissipation properties and improves impact resistance, to tearing and pulling.
âThe decision to partner with Mechnano was a natural step in the expansion of B9Creations additive manufacturing solutions,â said Shon Anderson, CEO of B9Creations. âMechnano’s engineering-grade materials are ideally suited to the high throughput, precision, and plug-and-play technology of the B9 Core Series systems to allow businesses to easily move from prototyping to production.
Mechnano’s exclusive technology, MechT, disentangles and separates the carbon nanotubes, then disperses them in the AM materials without reagglomerating. The resulting tubes could be tailored to specific performance requirements and deliver performance previously unattainable, such as a 50% increase in tensile strength, a 200% increase in toughness, or an 850% increase in strength. tear resistance. In addition, MechT can be functionalized to add properties such as electrostatic discharge (ESD) to existing resins.
âB9Creations’ high resolution printers are an excellent complement to the technology of Mechnano, MechTSays Steven Lowder, CEO and co-founder of Mechnano. âBy working together, we will improve existing materials and create new resins to meet the needs of production applications. “
